Are you ready for this feet??
That’s what I’ve been asking myself since I bought my new Hoka walking shoes a couple of weeks ago… and it’s what I’ve been asking myself since I bought the pair of Solomon trekking shoes to replace the Hoka’s last week. … Ps both are in my bag!
Moral of the story: finding the perfect walking shoe for an adventure like this is nearly impossible!
The reason for my writing is not to rehash the past, however, we are who we are because of our experiences and I would like to highlight the Camino my mother and I completed across Spain. It brought us peace, in a time of suffering. The experience of deep love and loss never truly goes away, however, it does shape us. We become a little more resilient, a little more aware, a little more calm, a little more patient and even perhaps, a little less. I will miss having my mother by my side as I embark on this adventure. But like all birds, we must learn to fly on our own. I love you mum.
And so my adventure as a pilgrim continues! After countless chats with my dear friend Leslie, recounting my previous Camino experiences, ( between you and I, I never really thought she’d actually follow through with doing something like this ), I received a phone call a month ago. “Are you still interested in going to Porto and walking the Camino Portugues ?”
Was I ? … I hummed and I hawed and of course I said yes! … and then I waited. I waited for the phone to ring, a text message, a courier pigeon 🤔 and nothing. I heard nothing for a week, until I received a message claiming she wasn’t sure she could do it. But with a little pressure, not much, but just enough, here we are sitting in a hotel room in Porto, Portugal.
After not much sleep on the plane, a delicious breakfast at a café, our room was ready for us by 11 am. Thank you Bnapartments!! A long nap later … we are ready to start this adventure with a walk down to the cathedral to have our credentials stamped. We will be on our way in the morning. But not to early, after all, this is the little princess pilgrim.
